Kelly Marie
The disco/Hi-NRG singer Kelly Marie won the Opportunity Knocks talent competition on British television at the age of 15, but it was in France that she first enjoyed any success on vinyl when ‘Who’s The Lady With My Man?’ was awarded a gold disc. However, ‘Feels Like I’m In Love’ topped the UK singles chart in 1980. The song, written by former Mungo Jerry leader Ray Dorset, had originally been intended for Elvis Presley who died before he could record it. Minor hits followed with ‘Loving Just For Fun’, ‘Hot Love’ and ‘Love Trial’, before Kelly’s chart career came to an end. She made a part-time return to the club circuit in the 90s generally to appreciative gay Hi-NRG audiences, such as those at the G.A.Y. venue. Her last record was a cover of Billy Fury’s ‘Halfway To Paradise’ in 1989.
